HOTEL REVIEW – Kimpton Margot Sydney

The Kimpton Margot is a newly opened and sublimely luxurious hotel on Pitt Street, located at the former Sydney Metropolitan Water Sewerage & Drainage Board headquarters in Sydney’s CBD. Replacing the Primus Hotel, the Kimpton Margot is the first of the Kimpton brand of hotels in Australia – a US boutique hotel brand that is now a part of the Intercontinental Hotel Group.

It is a stunning Art Deco delight, with original period features and a grand lobby with sky high columns, shades of pink and cream granite, touches of brass throughout, smooth lines and gorgeous lighting, sumptuous furnishings and a stunning interior design palette that makes this hotel a true standout.

Featuring a sweeping lobby desk to one side, mirrored by a cocktail bar on the other, the central lobby is flanked by a ‘The Pantry at Margots’ cafe and Luke’s Kitchen (the flagship restaurant of celebrity Australian chef, Luke Mangan). My stay included breakfast at Luke’s kitchen, were the service and food was impeccable, as you would expect with an acclaimed chef at the helm.

Staff are welcoming and friendly, and the hotel gives off an air of joy and serenity (I could sit in this lobby for hours with a cocktail in hand and watch the world go by, it’s such a beautiful space, and perfection from every angle).

I stayed in one of the hotel’s remarkably spacious and unique Corner Suites. 74 metres squared with a super comfortable King bed with eco bedding, arched desk that shaped its way around the bedroom, huge windows and amazing bathroom featuring a double vanity, deep bath tub with spa features and walk-in shower. The walkway between the bedroom and lounge featured a large wardrobe with full length mirror and safe. Amenities from Mr Smith and luxurious robes and slippers were available. The huge separate living area with lounge featuring two couches, huge Smart TV screen, minibar, table and chairs, wardrobe and ensuite bathroom with vanity and toilet. It also included a Nespresso machine, bluetooth speakers and free wifi.

I was amazed and impressed with the level of service provided by the hotel went to accomodate its guests. My baggage had been misplaced by Qantas, and I was able to request a toiletry pack (with toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, etc.), as well as a curling iron and yoga mat – all requests were met with professionalism and prompt service. The ease in which I interacted with staff and the optimum customer service made my stay feel like a luxurious getaway at a home away from home. The hotel also boasts a Fitness centre with 24-hour gym, yoga studio with classes and Lekker bikes for you to ride around the city.

Just when you think the hotel couldn’t get any better, you arrive at the roof top pool, with bar and food service soon to be available. It is a wonderful gem atop a stunning hotel, that will be the place to be come Summer.

Overall, the Kimpton Margot is a stunning boutique hotel whose lavish appearance holds charm and charisma, a feat only attainable thanks to its wonderful staff and wonderful offerings to guests. With its central location, just a stroll from Hyde Park, big brand shopping, restaurants, and all the tourist attractions that Sydney has to offer a short drive away, it is the perfect place for your next Sydney stay.
