Melbourne-based Ethiopian R&B artist Soli joined Nigerian songstress, Tems, as the support artists on her Born In The Wild Tour around Australia. Soli’s beautiful vocals were a perfect match for the Tems audience, who took to the local singer’s tracks with adoration.

Tems opened her sold out Margaret Court Arena concert with ‘Crazy Tings’ to a rapturous audience, mesmerised by this beautiful and soulful singer. The stage, decked out with tufts of soft grasses and reeds, was a nod to Tems’ debut studio album and tour name, Born in the Wild. Wearing a bright white top and pant combo with glittering netted wrap and sky-high stilettos, Tems moved magically and rhythmically to the music, much to the applause of the crowd who could not get enough of Tems’ seductive moves and powerful vocals.

Continuing her set with ‘Avoid Things’, ‘Replay’, number one hit ‘Damages’ and ‘Wickedest’, Tems really got the crowd excited, sending mobile phones into the air as the her fans danced and sang the lyrics back to her. A change of pace saw her perform Grammy Award nominated single ‘Burning’ and a paired back version of ‘Higher’, which showcased her stunning vocals and mesmerising vocal range. Albeit a self-confessed throat issue meant that Tems’ voice was not at its best, citing that she doesn’t usually “sound like this” but was currently battling with a throat issue. However, if this was Tems not at her best, then at her peak she must be absolutely unbelievable, as she still sounded so amazing live. The singer did her upmost to keep her vocal range in check throughout the remaining concert, and although there were a couple notable inflections, she remained on point for majority of the evening. Not that any of her fans cared, so enraptured were they in her performance and adoration of them; happy to help sing the lyrics with Tems whenever she asked. Popping into the front row to chat to the audience, Tems confessed her love to them and even tried to find herself a Prince Charming, only to find out her chosen beau was much too young. Thankfully, a fan’s impressive vocals sent the crowd into a frenzy as Tems continued her set with ‘Ice T’, her debut single ‘Mr Rebel’, ‘Found’ and ‘Not An Angel’.

The crowd was on their feet for the entirety of the concert, but when the first few chords of ‘Love Me Jeje’ played, the stadium jumped. It was such a joyful rendition and had everyone dancing along to the catchy beat. ‘Essence’ was then played, along with closing tracks ‘Me & U’ and ‘Free Mind’ showcasing Tems’ power and strength as an artist, through her warm musicality and enduring lyrics. The closing verse of ‘Free Mind’ saw the arena lit up with thousands of phone lights as the audience chanted, “I may be falling deep” as we all fell even more deeply in love with Tems.
