HOTEL REVIEW – Rydges Melbourne

Rydges Melbourne is an amazing city hotel that really has it all. This beautifully and thoughtfully renovated 4.5 star hotel in the theatrical heart of Melbourne is a true gem. Its location on Exhibition Street, just around the corner from iconic Bourke Street, means that you have fine-dining restaurants, cool bars and rooftop hang outs with live music and a myriad of theatres at your literal doorstep (Her Majesty’s Theatre is across the road, the Comedy Theatre is a mere 100 metres on the same side of the road and the Princess Theatre is just 200m around the block). It is also the gateway to China town, as well as the incredible department store shopping of Myer and David Jones less than two tram stops away. Plus, the Royal Exhibition Building and Melbourne Museum are only a lazy 1km stroll past Parliament House and through the picturesque Carlton Gardens.

The sheer convenience and proximity to some of the city’s most renowned entertainment locations is reason enough to stay at Rydges Melbourne, however the hotel refurbishment is exceptional and the staff’s friendliness and amazingly high level of hospitality is what will entice you to stay. The flexibility of digital check-in and check-out also means less congestion at the concierge desk, but the attention to detail is still present, as is the welcome you receive as you enter the lobby, with staff always on-hand to assist.

Our stay was in one of the gorgeously spacious 60 metre square Deluxe Apartments. It was remarkably well-appointed and so beautifully and luxuriously furnished and decorated. It was the perfect couple’s getaway stay: featuring an open plan lounge/dining/kitchen, 55inch casting TVs in both the lounge and bedroom, king sized bed, double vanity, rain shower and a truly bougie but utterly amazing giant bath tub haloed by a huge circular mirror for that extra ‘wow’ effect.

The heated rooftop pool is an absolute highlight, complete with bar service, aesthetically pleasing lounge decor, amazing city views and perfect tropical tunes. The pool is a wonderful size and perfect for an arvo cocktail sip or early morning dip.

The hotel even boasts a world-class restaurant, Bossley, offering a full buffet brekkie, as well as lunch, dinner and drink options. It is a popular choice for theatre-goers, with pre-theatre dining options and Sundown Social happy hour.

It is always a relaxing and memorable stay at Rydges Melbourne. I highly recommend you check it out when next visiting Melbourne.
