The Closing Showcase Runway held on the final night of Melbourne Fashion Week at Melbourne Town Hall was a dazzling celebration of creativity and design. The grand venue, adorned with elegant decorations, was the perfect backdrop for an evening filled with artistry to celebrate 30 years of M/FW. Closing the week in style was a guest performance by the M/FW ambassador and musician, G-Flip.
Attendees enjoyed a rich tapestry of fashion, with the designers featuring both past masterpieces and contemporary works, encapsulating their artistic evolution over the years. This spectacular runway event was not only a display of innovation and craftsmanship, but also a heartfelt homage to 30 years of fashion history, with the runway celebrating the evolution of style and design across three remarkable decades. The excitement in the air was palpable as the audience marvelled at the unique visions that were brought to life through fabric and form.
The closing runway featured 30 designers, which truly delivered a closing show of celebration. Designers included, Aisha Ellén Garments, Akira, Alpha 60, búl, Clothing the Gaps, Dom Bagnato, ELK, Erik Yvon, Grace Lillian Lee, Gwendolynne, Jam the Label, Jason Grech, J’Aton Couture, Kloke, Kuwaii, Martin Grant | Christine on Collins, Micky in the Van | Saint Stella M, Nevenka, Ngali, Nicola Finetti, Pageant, Perple, Peter Jackson, Reigner, Sabatucci, Sean Rentero, S!X, SZN, The Social Studio, Strateas Carlucci, and Wackie Ju.
The runway showcased a diverse range of styles – from avant-garde creations that challenged traditional aesthetics, to classic chic pieces that epitomised timeless elegance, alongside vibrant colours, intricate patterns and exquisite craftsmanship.















Standouts included, Saint Stella M | Micky in the Van, Gwendolynne and Jason Grech. Saint Stella M | Micky in the Van garments were enchanting, their allure highlighted by whimsical charm and meticulous craftsmanship. Each intricate detail contributed to the creation of strong, defined silhouettes that exuded confidence and grace. The focal point of the ensemble was the exquisite floral piece that cascaded dramatically, showcasing an array of vivid blossoms. The added cape not only added a touch of drama but also embodied a sense of playful sophistication, perfectly capturing the essence of flair and artistic expression in fashion.
Gwendolynne showcased archival pieces from circa 2001 to 2008. Each one a unique piece that told its own story, capturing a specific moment in time and reflecting artistic vision and cultural influences. Gwendolynne’s detailed beading work was also a showcase of her exceptional craftsmanship; the creations beautiful vessels of memories and heritage, full of celebration.
Jason Grech immersed us in his intricate designs of various event pieces, drawing inspiration from different textures and styles, highlighting the aesthetic appeal but also the tailoring that went into each creation, which perfectly combined sophistication and boldness. Particularly captivating was a striking dark red dress featuring a seductive neckline and elegant silhouette that highlighted its rich colour, making it a standout choice for any formal occasion.
Closing out the show, G-Flip enthralled guests as they stepped onto the stage with guitar in hand. The warm glow of the lights illuminated them as they began to strum the strings, filling the air with the soothing melodies of their song, ‘Australia.’ The intimate acoustic performance added a personal touch to the runway show, drawing everyone’s attention to their heartfelt delivery and clear passion within the vocals to the audience (which included wife, Chrishell Stause).
The event not only highlighted the incredible talent within the fashion community but also served as a reminder of the artistry that thrives in Melbourne. With its stunning presentations and a festive atmosphere, the Closing Showcase truly marked a highlight of the city’s cultural calendar.
