Designer, Mandy Coon

1. WHAT THEME DID YOU ENDEAVOR TO CAPTURE WITH YOUR FALL 2010 COLLECTION? IT SEEMED TO ENCAPSULATE CONTRASTS OF LIGHT & DARK WITH OPPOSING ELEMENTS

Yes, I tend to play with dualities—light/dark,hard/soft, masculine/feminine.

2. WHAT IS IT ABOUT FASHION AND THE ACT OF DRESSING THAT INTRIGUES YOU THE MOST?

The possibilities are endless. You can always create new and exciting things.

3. DO YOU PREFER TO HAVE YOUR OWN FASHION LABEL OR WOULD YOU EVENTUALLY LIKE TO DESIGN FOR A FASHION HOUSE?

So far, I love having my own label…

4.WHAT IS IT ABOUT NEW YORK THAT ENABLES YOUR CREATIVE SIDE TO BLOSSOM AND SHINE?

There’s a constant rhythm to the city. It keeps you going, and there’s constant stimulation.

5. DID THE DJ’ING COME BEFORE OR AFTER THE DESIGNING AND WHOSE IDEA WAS IT TO NAME THE DUO WITH REFERENCE TO SOULWAX AND 2 MANY DJ’S, BECAUSE LET’S FACE IT, IT’S QUITE CLEVER.

Thank you! I was always making things for myself, and I’ve been in the fashion industry, in one form or another, for a long time, so the DJing came after. Mandy Brooks (the other Mandy of the 2 Mandy DJs) and I were in Miami and sitting on the beach with Dave and Steph (2 Many DJs), and I made the joke “Ha-ha! We could be 2 Mandy DJs!” Everyone loved the name so much that after a few years, we finally tried it, just so we could use the name, and loved it.
