HOTEL REVIEW: Stamford Plaza – Brisbane, Australia

It may seem like a lot to ask from one hotel. Provide a super convenient and central location, be family friendly and perfect for business travel, have a  waterfront restaurant with buffet breakfast, luxury suites with top notch amenities, a stunning view, well equipped gym… Oh, and don’t forget the heated outdoor pool.

Impossible you say? Not for the Stamford Plaza Brisbane.

Sitting directly opposite the gateway to the idyllic Botanic Gardens, along the gorgeous Brisbane River waterfront, the Stamford Plaza allows its guests access to the best of bright and beautiful Brisbane. From a stroll through the gardens, resplendent with its ornamental ponds, colourful lizards, weeping fig trees and lush greenery; to a meander down by the waterside to sip a crisp Sauvignon Blanc at one of the popular bars as you watch the steam boats and yachts cruise by – there are so many chilled and enjoyable things to do within a few steps of the Stamford Plaza. You really are spoiled for choice.

You don’t even need to leave the proximity of the hotel to enjoy the sights and sounds of Brisbane though, so expansive and appreciate of its surroundings is the hotel, that it utilises its waterfont setting to maximum benefit. The pool and sundeck area overlooks the river and out towards the gardens, taking full advantage of the Queensland sunshine. With comfy deck lounges, ample umbrella shade and option to order food and drinks via phone direct to the Concierge, you may not want to leave this area, ever. Open early and closing late, the heated pool and spa is a glorious spot to wile away a sunny afternoon in Brissy.

If you’d like to get out of your bathers and enjoy a restaurant atmosphere then you can head downstairs and sit at the hotel’s The Brasserie on the River, complete with (you guessed it) river views and blue and white stripped chairs, a nod to the colours of the South of France.

Or for those of you that don’t even want to venture outside your hotel room door, then the views, service, amenities and air con (Brisbane is a tropical climate after all) will satisfy you no end. Whether you stay in a Superior Room or the Stamford Suite, all rooms in the hotel offer phenomenal river views, highlighted by the Story Bridge – a Brisbane landmark lit up at night.

We stayed in a Junior Suite, which will also give you panoramic views of the river, as well as Botanic Garden (and sitting with your feet up, sipping champagne is also a much loved hotel pass time that we highly recommend). The Junior Suites are furnished with sumptuous arm chairs and couches, king sized beds and writing desks. For those that have young families, the suites are large enough to include a cot and high chair without it being cluttered – just ensure you make a request for both of these items prior to your stay. We endured quite a comedic error in regards to the high chair (a bar stool was brought instead) but eventually a child appropriate piece of furniture was provided and our amusement satisfied for one day.

You could opt to soak in your bath tub and take full advantage of the brilliant L’Occitane en Provence products (a true favourite of mine and another nod to the South of France, which I love – extra brownie points!) or take a seat in your dressing room area and make the most of getting ready for a night out on the town, being wined and dined by top restaurants and bars – the likes of Aria, Black Bird, Customs House, Sake and Riverbar are all in the vicinity.

Aesthetically, the Stamford’s interior is grand and sumptuous with ornate chandeliers, sweeping cream marble floors and dark wooden furniture. Complete with Grand Ballroom, conference rooms, extremely well equipped poolside gym and 24 hour concierge, the Stamford Plaza Brisbane truly is, a hotel that has it all.
