The Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF) Opening Night Gala, presented by David Jones, is always a divine affair, where Aussie fashionistas flock to the Royal Exhibition Buidling in Carlton. Many endeavour to snap or be snapped before the yellow glow of the sun subsides behind the gorgeous Melbourne monuments – the regal allure of the Exhibition Building and the striking modernism of the Melbourne Museum, whose plunging steel walls provide many a street style bloggers’ backdrop.
This year I came to cover my fourteenth Melbourne Fashion Festival and celebrate the event’s 21st birthday (my 34th birthday too, if anyone is counting). I wore a bright green and blue sheer embroidered Alice McCall gown, known as the Northern Lights dress, from the designer’s latest collection, which I absolutely adore – it is such a unique and beautiful dress that is reminiscent of a mermaid’s glittering tail or the magical Northern Lights of Finland and Norway.

I paired this bright creation with my custom-made pair of bow-tipped peach patent Alex + Alex platforms, stunning Giselle earrings from Quella Collection and a studded Union Jack skull clutch from vintage market. Shot by the lovely Libby Matson.
